MAC Haute & Naughty Mascara

I got sent this mascara for free as a good will gesture from MAC, as I tried to buy the Quite Cute collection however they had disabled their online store for a week, so I got it late! A £17.50 mascara for free? Yes please! . Haute & Naughty consists of 2 wands, a pink one which gives a more daytime subtle look (see my second pic), and the purple glittery wand for a more dramatic night look (see my third pic). I guess this is a 2 looks in one mascara deal. . This is a little hit and miss with me, more miss if I'm honest. I tried using the purple wand first and it had no effect whatsoever, it made my lashes look short and stubby! So I used the pink wand and it lengthened and separated lashes, lovely (see my fourth pic), but added no volume whatsoever, so the effects weren't all that obvious. So to add volume you have to use the purple one on top (See my fifth pic). So instead of a mascara for 2 different looks, it was more 2 mascaras for one look. . It did go a little spidery, but not too clumpy. I think this is an OK mascara, but quite expensive considering cheaper ones do a better job. I like the idea behind the 2 wands, but I think the purple wand needs improving, whereas the pink one is kind of OK, it does it's shop of separating, defining and lengthening. The overall look is OK, but not perfect, and it need a lot of layers and a lot of time and work, which to be honest I don't know if I could be bothered to do every day! . For a free mascara it is great, however for a £17.50 mascara it isn't up to the standard it should be.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara

It is going to be very easy to boycott Max Factor due to animal testing with a product like this! I don't want 2000 calories in me through too many biscuits, and in this case I don't want it on me either, in terms of the mascara of course! This has received so many raves, and I thought I would love it, but Maybelline The Falsies is so much better in performance and the same price. Thisdoes lengthen, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't really have the volume, and it goes spidery and clumpy so easily. Noone likes spider legs however this mascara is massively prone to it. For a drug store brand it is OK, but there are better macaras out there. The packaging does look more expensive then Maybelline, but the formula just doesn't match up to Maybelline at all, and it is the product not the packaging that matters.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara

This is an OK product for the price. It lengthens a lot and volumises, so I'd say it gives that false lash effect it claims. However this formula really smells bad! It also makes lashes very stiff and it can clump them up so bad, so you have to use it very sparingly or you will get spider legs. It is also very wet, it takes a while to dry so I did have some problems with smudging and getting it between my eye and eyebrow. The curves brush does help catch all the lashes though. So it does lengthen and it is an OK mascara, but it has it's faults. Maybelline is also under the P&G umbrella and so it has been linked with animal testing, so I won't be buying this again!

Dior Diorshow Iconic Mascara

This was my HG before I discovered Yves Saint Laurent's Faux Cils mascara. It lengthens, separates, volumises and slightly curls lashes. Is it worth the price tag... No. It is better then drug store mascaras, however it doesn't blow me away enough to pay £20! It could clump, and I found it didn't last all that long before it started drying out. This I found better at separating then Diorshow,however I still found that both of them could clump when you first started using it, and it could take a little while to dry. If this was cheaper then it was, it would probably blow drug store brands out of the water, but as it stands it just wasn't worth the money. The packaging is adorable, really good high end quality, and the sleek silver and lettering is lovely. It's a shame the formula couldn't be less clumpy! I don't think this will be a repurchase though.

Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils Mascara

This is an expensive mascara, however I personally feel that it was worth it! For me it made my lashes longer, more volumised, and it made my lashes look a little like false lashes so I found it lived up to it's name. I found that when I wore this mascara I didn't need eyeliner like I normally did as it made my eyes look so much wider and bigger due to the volumised lashes! I was veryimpressed since I had no clumping, smudging or flaking. The packaging is lovely quality and has that lovely high end look to it. You definitely can't lose this shiny gold mascara! So far this is the one mascara I will always go back to! Excuse my swatch picture, it is the best I could do, it didn't photograph well for me :[

L'Oreal Panoramic Curl Mascara

This is a good drug store mascara, it isn't as cheap as Max Factor or Maybelline but it does it's job and it does a job better then most drug store mascaras. It separates lashes and makes them long and I did see a bit of curl in them, though not a lot. I did have a little bit of clumping however not as much as I have with maybelline mascaras. My mum was given this at an event, but because it was brown she gave it to me. This isn't actually that obviously brown, and I find they look less false lash with it being brown as obviously the colour isn't as sharp. I like this mascara, it is nice, but for the price I am not sure whether it is HG material and I doubt I would go to the shops to buy it, due to it saying "curl" in the name however it doesn't really curl my lashes much, even when I've curled them. So although it makes my lashes nice, it doesn't do what it says it should. Also because it is from L'Oreal, they test on animals and as a brand I think it is slightly overpriced. This is the only L'Oreal mascara I have liked, but it isn't the best mascara I've had.

Review: MAC Prep + Prime Lash primer

Well I don't really need a primer however I thought it is a staple for many people, so I thought I would review it. So here we go...

I found that this did make the lashes look longer, however was prone to clumping and made it harder to shape and direct the shape your lashes went in. It also curved the end of the lashes weirdly so I had to dab the end of the lashes so the mascara came off so it didn't look so weird, spidery and misshaped (so hard to explain but it made the end of the lashes go weird). But if you use any less it has no effect whatsoever. Maybe it would work better with a MAC mascara, however I used Diorshow Iconic (which I will also review) and it just did not work with it at all.

I would rate this 2/5 as it just had more negative effects then positive, it either made no difference or just made the lashes unmanageable and a bit of a mess! It may have a better rating with other mascaras.

Review : Diorshow Mascaras

I have used many mascaras, the best mascara I have ever used so far is Diorshow Iconic by Dior.

The first Dior mascara I tried was Diorshow. It gives beautiful lashes without having to apply half the contents of the bottle, pleasant smelling, and gives long and separated lashes. It is also available in a waterproof version, and a blacker version named "blackout", however I don't think the original Diorshow could get much blacker.

The price is a downer at £20 each from Debenhams, however it definitely worth a try if you have the spare cash. The mascara comes in a silver mirrored box, and the mascara bottle itself has Dior written all over the top half, so there will be no guesses who made the mascara. However I find that it is tastefully done, and if you like to flash the labels then this is a bonus (unless you use blackout, which is a plain black bottle).

Overall, I would give this a 8/10. The price being the downer, and I feel the mascara could last a bit longer on the lashes then it does, and the first few times you use it so much product is on the brush that it clumps a little. I still think that it is worth a try, I think it will probably go on different for different people :]



Now, Diorshow Iconic is a whole different matter. I thought the only difference would be that it gave a bit of extra curve in comparison, but the brush is completely different and so the effect is completely different. I found it never clumped, the lashes were a lot more separate and also longer. The bottle is silver with Dior embossed all down it and has Diorshow Iconic and Dior written down the side in black. The box is just the same as the regular Diorshow. It also comes in a waterproof version.
